World of Darts: privacy

World of Darts keeps your darts on your iPhone. You don't make an account, and the app never asks for an email or a password.

Who we are. World of Darts is made by Peter Ripple, an independent developer. To ask about your data, get a copy of it or have it deleted, email hello@worldofdartscareer.com.

No tracking. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, in the app or on this website, and this website sets no cookies. We never sell your data.

Backup. Your matches, careers and hats are backed up to your own iCloud, which only you can read.

Friends. If you turn on sharing for a player, that player's card is sent to our server and shown to the friends you add: name, nickname, look and hat, circuit, season, stats and trophies. The app sends it again each time you leave it, so your friends see today's numbers. Nothing else leaves your iPhone: no contacts, no location, no match-by-match history.

What others see. Friends see your card and when it was last updated. Anyone with your invite link or code sees your name, nickname, look and hat until the invite expires after 7 days. When you play a friend online, they see your name, look and hat and every turn of that match.

World boards. If you leave World boards on, your name, look, hat and this week's numbers are shown to other players on the World boards. Names that break our word list are shown as "Player" and a number. The server keeps each week's numbers for 8 weeks.

Reporting a name. Any player can report a name on the World boards. The server keeps who reported it, the name and when. After reports from three players, the name is hidden from the World boards until it is reviewed. Changing the name clears its reports. Otherwise they're kept until either player stops sharing.

Online matches. When you play a friend online, each turn you enter goes through our server to your friend's phone. The server keeps the match (the two players' names and looks, the game and its turns) while it is played and for 7 days after it ends, so a phone that was away can still read the result, then deletes it. Challenges are deleted after a day.

Removing a friend. Removing a friend deletes the friendship on both sides. The server keeps a note that you removed them for 7 days, so an invite you sent before can't add them back. Only a new invite from you can. A match you were playing with them ends as a resignation, and challenges between you are cancelled.

Notifications. If you allow notifications, your iPhone's notification token is kept with your card, with your switches for challenges, friends' moments and events and news, so a friend's challenge reaches you. The app sends the token again each time it starts. It is deleted when you turn sharing off, when Apple tells us it no longer works, or after 12 months without being sent again.

Moments. With Share my moments on, your iPhone tells our server when you hit a moment, and the server sends a notification to your friends who have Friends' moments on. The moments are your first match, your first 100+, your first 140+, a 180, a checkout of 100 or more, a promotion or relegation, and a world title. The server keeps which firsts it has sent, so each goes once, and when it sent moments for a day, to limit them.

Events and news. These notifications are off unless you turn them on in Settings → Notifications. They're our own news about World of Darts, never ads for anyone else. We may send one only to players on one circuit, or only to players whose card hasn't been updated for a number of days (players who haven't played for a while). We can also send one to a few chosen players, which we use to test on our own phones.

Stopping. Turn sharing off in Settings and everything the server holds for that player is deleted at once: the card, friendships, invites, World board weeks, reports, removal notes, notification tokens and moments. A live online match ends as a resignation and challenges are cancelled; finished online matches stay until their 7 days are up. Deleting a player stops their sharing too.

If you delete the app. If you delete World of Darts without turning sharing off, your card stays on our server and your friends still see it. A card that hasn't been updated for 12 months is deleted, with everything else the server holds for that player, as if they had turned sharing off. To have it deleted sooner, email hello@worldofdartscareer.com, with the player's name and roughly when you last played.

Purchases. Pro and caller voices are bought through Apple. Apple handles the payment and tells the app what you own. We never see your payment details, and nothing about your purchases is sent to our server.

Who handles your data for us. Our server and its database run on Cloudflare. Notifications go through Apple's push notification service. Your backup is kept by Apple in your own iCloud, and Apple handles purchases. Nobody else gets your data.

Where it's kept. Cloudflare runs our server around the world: your requests are handled in the Cloudflare data centre nearest you, our database is in North America, and an online match is kept in a data centre near the players. So your data may be stored and handled outside your country.

Your internet address is used only to slow down anyone sending too many requests. It isn't kept with your card.

Children. World of Darts isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child under 13 has turned on sharing, email hello@worldofdartscareer.com and we'll delete their card.

Changes. If this policy changes, the date below changes, and we'll say what changed in What's New for the app's next update.
